Jesus's final words on the matter

Acts 1:8 "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

Jesus walked the earth in public ministry for 3-3.5 years. He spoke of many things and in many parables to demonstrate the things of which he spoke.

After his death, burial and resurrection it was reported that he was seen alive in parts of the region for 40 days - speaking again of things pertaining to the Kingdom of God (Acts 1:3). We then begin in verse 4 with the command that those who had assembled should not depart from Jerusalem, but that they should wait for the promise yet to come of the Holy Ghost.

Jesus's final words to those gathered are found in verse 8 where he described what would happen after the Holy Ghost is come up them and we see his final words - "ye shall BE witnesses".

I think that it's important to note that Jesus didn't give them a final "To DO list", He gave them a final "To BE list" ... "BE witnesses".

As the mother of 5 children, I recognize that every day you talk to your children and you talk at your children but when you are leaving for any length of time you give final instructions, hoping that of ALL the things you've said they hopefully remember the LAST thing that you said.

St. Francis of Assisi stated "Preach the Gospel at all times - when necessary, use words". I've always loved that quote and when I read Acts 1:8 I feel the connection between Jesus's last words and St. Francis of Assisi.

What you are DOing is important but ultimately what are you BEing? Are you BEing God's hands and His feet? Are you loving like Christ loved? Are you forgiving like God forgives? Are you giving like God gave?

John 13:35 says, "By this all men will KNOW that you are MY disciples, if you LOVE one another."
